A red grape variety with white juice
This red grape variety is one of the main varieties grown in the Loire Valley to produce red or rosé wines in Chinon, Bourgueil and Saumur.
It offers fruity and velvety wines of great character which have aromas of strawberries and blackberries. When cultivated on tufa soils, the grape variety produces full-bodied wines with beautiful structure.
It is used alone or in combination with Cabernet Sauvignon for the production of Saumur Puy Notre Dame or Saumur Rouge.
